Method

Crab Preparation

  1. 1

    Clean the Crabs

Rinse the live blue crabs under cold water to remove any dirt or debris. Use a brush if necessary to clean the shells.

  2. 2

    Boil the Water

In a large pot, bring 4 quarts of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 cup of Old Bay seasoning and 1 cup of vinegar to the pot and stir to combine.

  3. 3

    Add the Crabs

Once the water is boiling, carefully add the crabs to the pot. Cover and let them cook for about 10-15 minutes or until the shells turn a bright orange color.

  4. 4

    Drain the Crabs

Using tongs, remove the crabs from the pot and place them in a large bowl or on a platter. Allow them to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Dipping Sauce

  1. 5

    Melt the Butter

In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter until it is fully liquid.

  2. 6

    Sauté the Garlic

Add 4 minced garlic cloves to the melted butter and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, making sure not to burn the garlic.

  3. 7

    Add Lemon Juice and Seasoning

Stir in 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of Old Bay seasoning into the butter and garlic mixture. Mix well.

  4. 8

    Serve

Transfer the dipping sauce to a small bowl for serving alongside the crabs.
