Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into even strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and results in crispier fries.

  3. 3

    Dry the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the dried potato strips to the hot oil in small batches. Fry them for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

    Drain and Season

Remove the fries from the oil and let them drain on paper towels. While they are still hot, season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the hand-cut fries immediately while they are hot and crispy.
