Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel the Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Peel the skin off using a vegetable peeler.

  2. 2

    Slice the Potatoes

Using a sharp knife or a mandoline slicer, cut the potatoes into thin slices (about 1/8 inch thick) for even cooking.

  3. 3

    Soak the Potato Slices

Place the sliced potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch and makes the chips crispier.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a slice of potato into it; it should sizzle immediately.

  2. 5

    Dry the Potato Slices

After soaking, drain the potato slices and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potato Slices

Carefully add a handful of the potato slices to the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 3-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the chips from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt and any additional seasonings if desired.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve and Enjoy

Allow the chips to cool slightly before serving. They are best enjoyed fresh and warm, either on their own or with your favorite dips.
