Brown Gravy

Method

Preparing the Burger Patty

1

Mix and Shape

In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until well combined, then form into one large patty or two smaller patties.

2

Grill the Patty

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the burger patty for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until it reaches your desired doneness. Remove from heat and let it rest.

Cooking the Rice

3

Rinse and Cook

Rinse the white rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the rice is tender and water is absorbed. Fluff with a fork.

Frying the Eggs

4

Cook the Eggs

In a non-stick skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Crack the eggs into the skillet and cook until the whites are set and the yolks are still runny, about 3-4 minutes. For a firmer yolk, cook for an additional minute.

Making the Brown Gravy

5

Prepare the Roux

In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Stir in the all-purpose flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden brown, stirring continuously.

6

Add Broth

Gradually whisk in the beef broth to the roux, ensuring there are no lumps. Add soy sauce, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes until thickened.

Assembling the Dish

7

Layer the Ingredients

In a bowl or plate, start by placing a serving of rice, then add the grilled burger patty on top. Carefully place the fried egg over the patty and generously drizzle with brown gravy.

8

Serve

Serve immediately while hot, and enjoy your Loco Moco!
