Brewing Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Ingredients
Gather all the ingredients and ensure they are at room temperature. Measure out the wheat malt and pilsner malt.
- 2
Heat Water
In a large brew kettle, heat 5 gallons of water to approximately 160°F (71°C).
- 3
Mash the Grains
Add the measured wheat malt and pilsner malt to the hot water. Stir well and maintain the temperature at around 150°F (65°C) for 60 minutes. This process converts the starches in the grains to sugars.
- 4
Sparging
After mashing, rinse the grains with hot water (about 170°F or 77°C) to extract additional sugars. Collect the wort in your brew kettle.
- 5
Boil the Wort
Bring the wort to a boil and add the hops. Boil for 60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 6
Cool the Wort
After the boil, cool the wort quickly to about 70°F (21°C) using a wort chiller or an ice bath.
- 7
Fermentation
Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermentation vessel. Add the raspberry puree and sprinkle the yeast on top. Seal the vessel with an airlock.
- 8
Conditioning
Allow the beer to ferment for 1-2 weeks at room temperature, or until fermentation activity has stopped.
- 9
Bottling
Once fermentation is complete, mix priming sugar with a small amount of water and boil for 5 minutes. Cool and add to the beer before bottling. Bottle the beer and cap.
- 10
Carbonation
Allow the bottled beer to carbonate at room temperature for 1-2 weeks.
- 11
Chill and Serve
After carbonation, chill the bottles in the refrigerator. Serve cold and enjoy your Raspberry Wheat!
