Brewing Ingredients

Method

Brewing Process

  1. 1

    Mashing

Start by heating 3 gallons of water to approximately 165°F (74°C).

  2. 2

    Mashing In

Add the Pale Malt and Crystal Malt to the heated water and stir well. Maintain the temperature at around 150°F (65°C) for 60 minutes.

  3. 3

    Sparging

After 60 minutes, rinse the grains with another 2 gallons of hot water (170°F or 77°C) to extract sugars.

  4. 4

    Boiling

Bring the collected wort to a boil. Once boiling, add the Cascade Hops and boil for 60 minutes.

  5. 5

    Adding Hops

After 30 minutes of boiling, add the Centennial Hops. In the last 5 minutes of boiling, add the Citra Hops.

  6. 6

    Cooling

Cool the wort quickly using a wort chiller or an ice bath until it reaches about 70°F (21°C).

  7. 7

    Fermentation

Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermenter and add the yeast. Seal the fermenter and let it ferment at room temperature for 1-2 weeks.

  8. 8

    Bottling

Once fermentation is complete, dissolve the priming sugar in a small amount of boiling water and add it to the beer before bottling.

  9. 9

    Carbonation

Bottle the beer and store it at room temperature for 1-2 weeks to carbonate.

  10. 10

Chill and enjoy your homemade Icy Bay IPA!
