Method

Preparing the Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Forming the Patty

In a mixing bowl, gently form the ground beef into two equal-sized balls, weighing about 8 ounces each. Avoid overworking the meat to keep the patty tender.

  2. 2

    Seasoning

Sprinkle both sides of the beef balls with salt and black pepper.

Cooking the Patty

  1. 3

    Preheat the Griddle

Heat a griddle or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until hot.

  2. 4

    Cooking the Patty

Place the beef balls on the griddle and use a heavy spatula to smash each ball down into a flat patty. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until a nice crust forms.

  3. 5

    Flipping the Patty

Flip the patty and immediately place a slice of American cheese on top. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and the patty is cooked to your desired doneness.

Making the Smoked Garlic Aioli

  1. 6

    Preparing the Aioli

In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, minced smoked garlic, lemon juice, and salt. Mix well until smooth.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 7

    Preparing the Buns

Toast the burger buns lightly on the griddle until golden brown.

  2. 8

    Building the Burger

Spread a generous amount of smoked garlic aioli on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place the cheeseburger patty on top, followed by a handful of shaved red onions. Top with the other half of the bun.
