Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Espresso
Brew 1 cup of strong espresso coffee and allow it to cool. If using, mix in the coffee liqueur.
- 2
Make the Custard Filling
In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and granulated sugar until the mixture is pale and creamy. Add the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract, and mix until smooth.
- 3
Whip the Cream
In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined.
Assembling the Tiramisu
- 4
Soak the Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled espresso mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.
- 5
Layer the Tiramisu
In a 9x9 inch dish, place a layer of soaked ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone filling over the ladyfingers. Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and the remaining filling.
Chilling and Serving
- 6
Chill the Tiramisu
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
- 7
Add Topping
Before serving, dust the top with unsweetened cocoa powder using a fine sieve.
