Method

Rice Preparation

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Place the basmati rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse it under cold running water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky.

  2. 2

    Cook the Rice

In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed basmati rice, 2 cups of water, and 0.5 tsp of salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.

Saffron Infusion

  1. 3

    Infuse the Saffron

While the rice is cooking, place the saffron threads in a small bowl and pour 2 tablespoons of hot water over them. Allow the saffron to steep for about 10 minutes, which will enhance its flavor and color.

Combine and Garnish

  1. 4

    Combine Saffron with Rice

Once the rice is cooked, remove it from heat and fluff it gently with a fork. Pour the saffron infusion over the rice and mix carefully to ensure the saffron is evenly distributed throughout the rice.

  2. 5

    Garnish and Serve

If desired, sprinkle chopped fresh cilantro and toasted slivered almonds on top of the saffron rice for added flavor and texture. Serve warm as a side dish or as a base for your favorite curry.
