Method
Prepare the Filling
- 1
Cook the Rice
In a medium saucepan, combine the long-grain rice with 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 15 minutes or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let cool.
- 2
Mix the Filling Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the cooked rice, ground beef or lamb, finely chopped onion, parsley, mint, salt, black pepper, cinnamon, and olive oil. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
Prepare Grape Leaves
- 3
Rinse and Prepare Grape Leaves
Drain the canned grape leaves and rinse them under cold water to remove excess brine. Lay them flat on a clean surface, stem side up.
Stuff and Roll
- 4
Stuff the Grape Leaves
Take a grape leaf and place about 1 tablespoon of the filling at the base. Fold the sides over the filling and then roll from the base upwards to form a tight cylinder. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.
Cooking

Arrange and Cook
Place the stuffed grape leaves seam-side down in a large pot. Drizzle with lemon juice and add enough water to cover the grape leaves. Place a plate on top to keep them submerged. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook on low heat for about 45 minutes.
- 6
Serve
Once cooked, let the grape leaves cool slightly before serving. They can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature. Drizzle with additional olive oil and lemon juice if desired.
