Method
Cake Directions
- 1
Prepare the Baking Pan
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease an 8-inch round cake pan with butter and line the bottom with parchment paper.
- 2
Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a heatproof bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Melt them together over a pot of simmering water or in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
- 3
Mix Sugar and Eggs
In a separate mixing bowl, whisk the granulated sugar and large eggs together until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.
- 4
Combine Mixtures
Slowly pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture while continuing to whisk. Add in the vanilla extract, cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt, and mix until well combined.
- 5
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until the cake has set but is still slightly soft in the center.
- 6
Cool the Cake
Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Whipped Cream Directions
- 7
Chill the Equipment
For best results, chill your mixing bowl and beaters in the freezer for about 15 minutes before whipping the cream.
- 8
Whip the Cream
In the chilled bowl, combine the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Using an electric mixer, whip the mixture on medium-high speed until soft peaks form, about 2-3 minutes.
- 9
Serve
Once the cake has cooled completely, slice it and serve with a generous dollop of whipped cream on top.
