Prepare the Espresso
Brew the espresso and allow it to cool slightly. If desired, mix in the dark rum or coffee liqueur.

Whip the Cream
In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.

Mix the Mascarpone
In another bowl, gently fold the mascarpone cheese into the whipped cream until well combined.

Assemble the Tiramisù
Dip each ladyfinger into the cooled espresso for a couple of seconds and then layer them in the bottom of a serving dish.

Layer the Cream
Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and top with the remaining mascarpone mixture.

Chill and Serve
Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. Before serving, dust with cocoa powder.
