Fried Pretzel Bites
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the dough
In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and brown sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
- 2
Knead the dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 3
Shape the pretzel bites
Preheat oil in a deep fryer or large pot. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into small pieces. Roll each piece into a small rope and cut into bite-sized pieces.
- 4
Boil and fry
In a separate pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil. Boil the pretzel bites in batches for about 30 seconds each, then remove and let drain. Fry in hot oil until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
- 5
Serve
Drain the fried pretzel bites on paper towels. Drizzle with Steen's syrup and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
