Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, and egg. Add the activated yeast mixture to this bowl and stir to combine.

Dough Formation

  1. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the flour mixture. Stir until a dough begins to form.

  2. 5

    Knead Dough

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  3. 6

    First Rise

Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.

Shaping and Baking

  1. 7

    Shape Rolls

After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide it into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.

  2. 8

    Second Rise

Place the shaped rolls on a greased baking sheet, cover with a cloth, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  3. 9

    Preheat Oven

During the second rise, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  4. 10

    Bake Rolls

Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

  5. 11

    Optional Topping

Melt the butter and mix in garlic powder. Brush the mixture over the warm rolls, and sprinkle with fresh parsley.

Serving

  1. 12

    Serve Warm

Enjoy the freshly baked rolls warm, ideally alongside meatballs.
