Potatoes

Oil for Frying

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into even strips, approximately 1/4 inch thick, to ensure even cooking.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch, resulting in a crispier fry.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

Drain the soaked potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels. Removing moisture is key to achieving crispiness.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of dried potato strips to the hot oil. Fry them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook for 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 6

    Drain the Fries

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

  5. 7

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with sea salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Toss gently to coat evenly.
