Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, cream the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and mix until combined. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, until a smooth dough forms.

  2. 2

    Chill the Dough

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow it to firm up.

  3. 3

    Roll Out the Dough

On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut the dough into desired shapes using cookie cutters.

  4. 4

    Bake the Pastries

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the cut-out pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.

  5. 5

    Cool and Decorate

Remove the pastries from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack. Once cooled, spread fruit preserves or fresh fruit on top of the pastries. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
