Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Begin by peeling the Russet potatoes. Cut them into evenly sized chunks (about 1-2 inches) to ensure even cooking.

  2. 2

    Prepare Garlic

While the potatoes are being prepared, peel the garlic cloves. You can either leave them whole or chop them for a stronger garlic flavor.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Boil Potatoes

In a large pot, add the potato chunks and enough water to cover them. Add 1 tsp of salt to the water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium heat and let simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.

  2. 4

    Cook Garlic

In the last 5 minutes of the potatoes boiling, add the garlic cloves to the pot to soften them.

  3. 5

    Drain and Return to Pot

Once the potatoes and garlic are cooked, drain them in a colander and return to the pot. Allow them to sit for a minute to evaporate excess moisture.

Mashing

  1. 6

    Mash the Potatoes

Using a potato masher or a ricer, mash the drained potatoes and softened garlic together until smooth.

  2. 7

    Add Butter, Milk, and Cheese

Add the unsalted butter, milk, and grated Parmesan cheese to the mashed potatoes. Stir well until everything is combined and the mixture is creamy.

Seasoning

  1. 8

    Season to Taste

Add black pepper and adjust salt to taste. Stir well to incorporate the seasonings.

  2. 9

    Serve

Transfer the whipped potatoes to a serving bowl and serve hot. Enjoy your delicious whipped potatoes with garlic and Parmesan!
