Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Cut in Butter
Add the cold butter, cut into small pieces, and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Add Currants and Lemon Zest
Stir in the currants and lemon zest until evenly distributed.

Mix Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, lemon juice, and egg.

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
