Prepare Coffee Mixture

Brew Coffee
Brew 2 cups of strong coffee and let it cool to room temperature. If using coffee liqueur, mix it into the coffee once cooled.
Make Filling

Whip Cream
In a large bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Set aside.

Mix Egg Yolks and Sugar
In another bowl, whisk the egg yolks and granulated sugar until the mixture is pale and creamy.

Add Mascarpone and Vanilla
Gently fold the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract into the egg yolk mixture until smooth.

Combine Mixtures
Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined, ensuring not to deflate the cream.
Assemble Tiramisu

Soak Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.

Layer Ladyfingers
Place a layer of soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a 9x9 inch (or similar size) dish.

Spread half of the mascarpone filling over the layer of ladyfingers.

Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone filling.
Chill and Serve

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings if desired.
