For the Fish

Method

Preparing the Fish

  1. 1

    Marinate the Fish

In a bowl, combine the milk and eggs. Whisk together until well blended. Dip the fish fillets into the mixture, ensuring they are fully coated. Let them marinate for about 15 minutes.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In a separate shallow dish, mix together the flour, cornmeal, Cajun seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Blend well to ensure the spices are evenly distributed.

  3. 3

    Bread the Fish

After marinating, take each fish fillet and dredge it in the flour mixture, ensuring it's completely coated. Shake off any excess breading.

  4. 4

    Fry the Fish

In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Carefully add the breaded fish fillets to the hot oil, cooking for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Making the Remoulade Sauce

  1. 5

    Combine Ingredients

In a bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, hot sauce, pickle relish, lemon juice, garlic powder, paprika, and salt. Stir well until all ingredients are combined smoothly.

  2. 6

    Chill the Sauce

Cover the remoulade sauce and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. 7

    Prepare the Bread

Slice the French bread or hoagie rolls in half lengthwise.

  2. 8

    Layer the Ingredients

Spread a generous amount of the remoulade sauce on both sides of the bread. Place a few pieces of fried fish on the bottom half, followed by shredded lettuce, tomato slices, and pickles.

  3. 9

    Finish the Sandwich

Top with the other half of the bread, slice in half if desired, and serve immediately.
