Burger Patties

Burger Assembly

Method

Prepare the Burger Patties

  1. 1

    Form the Patties

In a mixing bowl, gently form the ground beef into two equal-sized balls, weighing approximately 1/4 pound each. Do not overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Season the Patties

Sprinkle kosher salt and black pepper evenly over each ball of beef.

Cook the Patties

  1. 3

    Heat the Skillet

In a large cast-iron skillet or frying pan, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.

  2. 4

    Smash the Patties

Place the beef balls in the skillet and immediately smash each one down with a sturdy spatula to form a thin patty. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the edges are browned.

  3. 5

    Flip and Add Cheese

Flip the patties over and place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese melts.

Assemble the Burgers

  1. 6

    Prepare the Buns

Toast the burger buns in the skillet or on a separate pan until golden brown.

  2. 7

    Layer the Ingredients

On the bottom half of each bun, layer lettuce, the cooked patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, pickles, ketchup, and mustard as desired.

  3. 8

    Top and Serve

Place the top half of the bun over the assembled ingredients, press down gently, and serve immediately while hot.
