For the Calamari
For the Spicy Aioli
Method
For the Calamari
- 1
Prepare the Ingredients
Start by cleaning the calamari and slicing it into rings. Pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- 2
Set Up the Breading Station
In a shallow bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. In another bowl, beat the eggs. In a third bowl, add the breadcrumbs.
- 3
Bread the Calamari
Take a ring of calamari, dip it into the flour mixture, then into the beaten eggs, and finally coat it with breadcrumbs. Repeat for all calamari rings.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the breaded calamari rings in batches to the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
For the Spicy Aioli
- 6
Mix the Aioli
In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, hot sauce, and salt. Stir until well blended.
- 7
Serve
Serve the crispy fried calamari hot with the spicy aioli on the side for dipping.
