Method
Cocktail Base
- 1
Combine liquids
In a large pitcher, pour 1.5 cups of the fruit-forward red wine, 1/2 cup fresh orange juice, 1/2 cup peach nectar, and 4 tablespoons vodka. Stir gently to combine, preserving the wine’s fruit character without bruising it.
- 2
Sweeten and balance
Add 1 tablespoon simple syrup, 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters to the pitcher. Stir until the simple syrup is fully incorporated and taste; adjust sweetness with up to 1 additional teaspoon simple syrup if desired.
- 3
Chill and marry flavors
Cover and refrigerate the mixture for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld and to fully chill. If short on time, chill the pitcher over an ice bath for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Finish & Serve
- 4
Add effervescence
Just before serving, gently stir in 1/2 cup cold sparkling water or club soda to add lift. Do this slowly to retain bubbles.
- 5
Prepare glassware
Fill four highball or large wine glasses with 2 large ice cubes (or equivalent). If you prefer weaker drinks, use more ice.
- 6
Pour and garnish
Divide the cocktail evenly among the four glasses, pouring over the prepared ice. Garnish each glass with an orange wheel or twist and a sprig of fresh mint if using. Serve immediately.
