Prepare glass (optional salted rim)
If you want a salted Greyhound (a Salty Dog), run the lime wedge around the rim of a highball or rocks glass, then dip the rim into a small plate of salt to coat. Set the glass aside.

Fill a shaker or mixing glass halfway with ice.

Add 2 oz vodka and 4 oz fresh grapefruit juice to the shaker.

Shake briskly for about 10–12 seconds, until chilled and slightly frosted. (Alternatively, if you prefer a less diluted drink, stir gently in the mixing glass for 10–15 seconds.)

Fill the prepared serving glass with fresh ice (about ¾ cup).

Strain the cocktail from the shaker into the serving glass over the fresh ice.

Garnish with a grapefruit wedge on the rim. Serve immediately.
