Base cocktail

Garnish & finish

Optional smoked salt rim

Method

Prepare glass (optional smoked salt rim)

  1. 1

    Rim the mug (optional)

If you want a smoky-salty accent: combine smoked sea salt and fine sugar on a small plate. Rub the lime wedge around the rim of a chilled copper mug, then dip the rim into the salt-sugar mixture, twisting to coat evenly. Set the mug aside.

Build the Copper Mug Worthy

  1. 2

Fill the prepared copper mug about three-quarters full with crushed ice.

  2. 3

Pour 2 oz vodka and 0.5 oz fresh lime juice into a mixing glass or directly into the mug. Add 0.25 oz simple syrup if you prefer a touch of sweetness (adjust to taste).

  3. 4

Top with about 4 oz chilled ginger beer. Gently stir once or twice with a long bar spoon to combine—avoid over-stirring to keep the ginger beer fizzy.

  4. 5

Taste and adjust: if the drink is too tart, add another 0.25 oz simple syrup; if too flat, add a splash more ginger beer.

  5. 6

Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim and slap the mint sprig lightly between your palms to release oils, then nestle it into the ice beside the lime.

  6. 7

Serve immediately in the copper mug with a short straw, encouraging the drinker to enjoy the cold copper contact and aromatic mint.
