Method
Preparation of the Prime Rib
- 1
Season the Prime Rib
Rub the prime rib roast with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder evenly on all sides. Let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- 2
Sear the Prime Rib
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Place the seasoned prime rib in a roasting pan and sear it in the oven for 20 minutes. This will create a nice crust.
- 3
Roast the Prime Rib
After 20 minutes, reduce the oven temperature to 325°F (163°C) and continue roasting until the internal temperature reaches 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare, about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Use a meat thermometer for accuracy.
- 4
Rest the Meat
Once cooked, remove the prime rib from the oven and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.
Preparing the Au Jus
- 5
Make the Au Jus
While the prime rib is resting, pour the beef broth into a saucepan and heat it over medium heat. Scrape any browned bits from the bottom of the roasting pan and add them to the broth for extra flavor. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
Assembling the French Dip
- 6
Slice the Prime Rib
Thinly slice the prime rib against the grain. Aim for slices that are about 1/4 inch thick.
- 7
Prepare the Rolls
Slice the French alpine rolls open and lightly toast them if desired. This adds extra crunch.
- 8
Assemble the Sandwich
Layer the sliced prime rib inside each roll. Serve with a small bowl of au jus on the side for dipping.
- 9
Garnish with Wasabi
Add a small dollop of wasabi on top of the beef in each sandwich for a zesty kick.
