Method
Preparation
Combine Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Whisk together until the sugar is fully dissolved.
Add Vanilla Bean (Optional)
If using a vanilla bean, split it open lengthwise and scrape the seeds into the mixture. Add the empty pod to the bowl for extra flavor.
Chilling
Chill Mixture
Cover the mixing bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight. This allows the flavors to meld and the mixture to chill thoroughly.
Churning
Churn Ice Cream
Once chilled, pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually about 20-25 minutes until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
Freezing
Freeze Ice Cream
Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container and smooth the top. Cover tightly and freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.
