Method

Prepare the Dough

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Whisk together until well combined.

  2. 2

    Add Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 large egg, 1 cup of milk, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the batter should be slightly lumpy.

  3. 3

    Rest the Batter

Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the batter rest for about 15 minutes while you heat the oil.

Fry the Buñuelos

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat 4 cups of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the temperature by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil; it should sizzle and rise to the top.

  2. 5

    Fry the Buñuelos

Using a spoon or your hands, drop small amounts of the batter (about 2 tablespoons) into the hot oil. Fry in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

  3. 6

    Drain Excess Oil

Once the buñuelos are golden brown, remove them from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Prepare Topping

  1. 7

    Mix Sugar and Cinnamon

In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of sugar and 2 tablespoons of cinnamon. Mix well.

  2. 8

    Coat the Buñuelos

While the buñuelos are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
