Method
Prep the Glass
Choose glass: rocks glass for on the rocks, margarita glass or coupe for shaken, or a large margarita/rocks glass for blended.
Run the lime wedge around the rim of the glass to moisten it.
Spread the kosher salt (or chili-lime salt/Tajín for a spicy rim) on a small plate and press the moistened rim into the salt to coat. Set glass aside.
Shake or Stir (On the Rocks or Shaken Margarita)
Measure
Measure 2 oz 100% blue agave tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz agave syrup (and 0.5 oz orange liqueur if using) into a cocktail shaker.
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup).
Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is cold and slightly frosted.
Garnish with a lime wedge or wheel on the rim.
Blended (Frozen Xolos Margarita)
Into a blender add 2 oz tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz agave syrup (and 0.5 oz orange liqueur if using), and about 1 to 1.5 cups of crushed ice depending on desired thickness.
Blend on high for 10–20 seconds until smooth and slushy. Pause and taste — if too tart, add 0.25 oz more agave syrup and re-blend briefly.
Pour into the prepared salt-rimmed glass. Garnish with a lime wedge or wheel.
Final Notes
Adjust sweetness: agave syrup quantity can be adjusted to taste. Use 0.25–0.75 oz depending on tartness of limes and tequila profile.
Temperature: serve shaken/cold for brightest flavor; blended for a festive frozen texture; on the rocks for a more relaxed dilution.
