Method
Cocktail
Prepare glass
Choose a 12-16 oz tall rocks glass or traditional clay cantarito mug if available. Run a cut lime wedge around the rim of the glass. Pour the teaspoon of kosher or coarse sea salt onto a small plate and dip the rim into the salt to coat. Set the glass aside.
Build the cocktail
Fill a cocktail shaker half full with ice. Add 2 oz tequila reposado, 2 oz fresh grapefruit juice (strained if desired for clarity), 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz agave syrup to the shaker.
Shake
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for about 10-12 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is cold and slightly frosted. This chills and dilutes the mixture properly.
Garnish and serve
Garnish with a grapefruit wheel or wedge and a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. Serve immediately with a straw if desired.
Notes on substitutions & scaling
If you prefer a drier drink, reduce agave to 0.25 oz. For a larger batch, multiply ingredient quantities by number of servings. If you don't have lime-flavored soda, use plain club soda and add 0.25 oz additional fresh lime juice and a thin lime slice for aroma.
