Method
Meatball Preparation
- 1
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, parsley, minced garlic, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- 2
Shape Meatballs
Using your hands, shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter.
- 3
Cook Meatballs
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a bit of olive oil. Cook the meatballs for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally until browned on all sides and cooked through.
Marinara Sauce Preparation
- 4
- 5
Combine with Tomatoes
Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes. Stir in oregano, salt, black pepper, and bring to a simmer. Let it cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 6
Add Fresh Basil
Stir in the chopped fresh basil and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
Sub Assembly
- 7
Assemble the Sub
Split each Turano roll lengthwise, but do not cut all the way through. Place 3 meatballs into each roll and spoon marinara sauce over the top.
- 8
Add Cheese
Top with a slice of provolone cheese and sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the meatballs.
- 9
Garnish
Add fresh basil leaves on top of the cheese. Optionally, you can place the assembled subs under a broiler for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
