Sausage and Marinara

Peppers and Onions

Method

Prepare the Sausage

  1. 1

    Brown the Sausage

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the Italian sausage links. Brown the sausages on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 2

    Add Marinara and Wine

Once browned, add the marinara sauce and red wine to the skillet. Bring to a simmer.

  3. 3

    Slow Simmer

Reduce the heat to low and let the sausage simmer in the sauce for 30-40 minutes, turning occasionally.

Prepare the Peppers and Onions

  1. 4

    Sauté Vegetables

While the sausage is simmering, in another skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers.

  2. 5

    Season and Cook

Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Sauté until the vegetables are tender, about 8-10 minutes.

Assemble the Italian Sausage Sandwiches

  1. 6

    Prepare the Rolls

Slice the Turano rolls in half and place them on a serving platter.

  2. 7

    Add Sausage and Toppings

Place a sausage link on each roll, spoon over the marinara sauce, and top with sautéed peppers and onions.

  3. 8

    Garnish and Serve

Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top and garnish with fresh basil. Serve immediately.
