Method

Preparation

1

Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

Batter Preparation

2

Make the Batter

In a bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Gradually whisk in the cold water until you have a smooth batter.

Frying

3

Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).

4

Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off.

5

Fry the Rings

Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

6

Drain and Serve

Remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
