Ingredients for Laphroaig 10 Year Whisky
Method
Distillation and Maturation Process
- 1
Mashing
Mix the malted barley with hot water to create a mash. Allow it to steep for several hours to convert starches into sugars.
- 2
Fermentation
Transfer the mash to fermentation vessels and add yeast. Allow it to ferment for about 48 hours until the sugars are converted to alcohol.
- 3
Distillation
Distill the fermented liquid in pot stills. The distillation process typically happens twice to increase alcohol content and develop flavors.
- 4
Maturation
Transfer the distilled spirit to charred oak casks and let it mature for at least 10 years. This process allows the whisky to absorb flavors from the wood.
- 5
Bottling
After maturation, the whisky is filtered and bottled without any artificial coloring. It is then ready for distribution and consumption.
