Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Blackcurrants

Rinse the blackcurrants under cold water and remove any stems or leaves.

  2. 2

    Make the Syrup

In a saucepan, combine the blackcurrants, sugar, and water. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the mixture starts to simmer. Reduce heat and let it simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. 3

    Strain the Mixture

Remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool slightly. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean container, pressing down on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible.

  4. 4

    Combine with Alcohol

In a large glass bottle or jar, combine the strained blackcurrant syrup with the neutral spirit or vodka. Add the lemon juice and stir well.

  5. 5

    Infuse and Store

Seal the bottle tightly and store it in a cool, dark place for at least 2 weeks to allow the flavors to meld. Shake the bottle gently every few days.

  6. 6

    Serve

After the infusion period, strain the liquid again if needed and serve chilled or use in cocktails.
