Fried Oyster Ingredients

Method

Fried Oyster Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the oysters

Rinse the fresh oysters under cold running water and drain them well.

  2. 2

    Make the batter

In a bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. In another bowl, whisk together eggs and milk until well combined.

  3. 3

    Coat the oysters

Dip each oyster first into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then coat it with the flour mixture. Shake off any excess flour.

  4. 4

    Heat the oil

In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the oysters

Carefully add the coated oysters to the hot oil, without overcrowding the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

    Drain and serve

Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried oysters from the oil and drain them on paper towels. Serve hot with lemon wedges.
