Clam Chowder Ingredients

Method

Clam Chowder Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Clams

Clean the clams thoroughly under cold water. Steam them in a pot until they open. Discard any that do not open. Remove the clams from their shells and chop them coarsely, reserving the liquid.

  2. 2

    Cook the Bacon

In a large pot, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon, leaving the drippings in the pot.

  3. 3

    Sauté the Vegetables

Add the chopped onion and celery to the bacon drippings and sauté until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.

  4. 4

    Add Potatoes and Broth

Stir in the chopped potatoes, reserved clam juice, and chicken broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the potatoes are tender, about 15 minutes.

  5. 5

    Combine Ingredients

Add the chopped clams, heavy cream, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.

  6. 6

    Serve

Ladle the chowder into bowls, and garnish with crumbled bacon and chives. Serve hot.
