Fried Calamari
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
In a large bowl, mix together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. In a separate bowl, pour the buttermilk over the calamari rings and let them soak for about 10 minutes.
- 2
Coat the Calamari
After soaking, remove the calamari rings from the buttermilk and let the excess drip off. Dredge the rings in the flour mixture until fully coated.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the coated calamari to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 5
Prepare the French Fries
In the same oil, fry the French fries according to package instructions or until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve
Serve the fried calamari hot with a side of French fries and your choice of dipping sauce.
