Method

Mashing

  1. 1

    Mash Grains

Heat 5 gallons of water to 165°F (74°C). Add the crushed grains and hold the temperature at 152°F (67°C) for 60 minutes. Stir occasionally.

  2. 2

    Sparge Grains

After mashing, sparge the grains with hot water to collect about 6.5 gallons of wort.

Boiling

  1. 3

    Boil Wort

Bring the wort to a boil. Once boiling, add Saaz hops and boil for 60 minutes.

  2. 4

    Add Spices

With 15 minutes left in the boil, add Hallertau hops, coriander seeds, and orange peel.

Fermentation

  1. 5

    Cool and Transfer

Cool the wort down to 70°F (21°C) and transfer to a fermentation vessel. Pitch the Saison yeast.

  2. 6

    Ferment

Allow the beer to ferment at 70°F (21°C) for about 2 weeks or until fermentation is complete.

Bottling

  1. 7

    Bottle Beer

After fermentation, bottle the beer with priming sugar and allow it to carbonate for 1-2 weeks.

  2. 8

    Chill and Enjoy

Once carbonated, chill the bottles in the refrigerator and enjoy your Efflorescence Saison!
