Pretzel Dippers
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast and brown sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- 2
Let the Dough Rise
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 3
Shape the Pretzels
Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and shape it into a pretzel. Place pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 4
Baking Soda Bath
In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and stir in the baking soda. Carefully dip each pretzel into the boiling water for about 30 seconds, then return them to the baking sheet.
- 5
Add Toppings and Bake
Sprinkle coarse sea salt over the pretzels and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- 6
Prepare Beer Cheese Dip
In a medium bowl, combine the shredded cheddar cheese, softened cream cheese, and beer. Mix well until smooth and creamy.
- 7
Serve
Serve the hot pretzels with the beer cheese dip and Bavarian mustard on the side.
