In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, whisk the buttermilk and egg together.

Coat the Pickles
Dip each pickle slice into the buttermilk mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated.

Heat the Oil
In a large, deep skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Fry the Pickles
Fry the coated pickle slices in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
