Burger Patties

Toppings

Method

Preparation of Burger Patties

  1. 1

    Make the Burger Patties

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until just combined.

  2. 2

    Shape the Patties

Form the mixture into four equal-sized patties, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.

Bourbon BBQ Sauce

  1. 3

    Prepare the Sauce

In a medium saucepan, combine bourbon, ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 4

    Cook the Sauce

Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

Cooking the Burger Patties

  1. 5

    Grill the Patties

Preheat your grill or stovetop grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the burger patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness.

  2. 6

    Add Cheese

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and close the grill lid to melt the cheese.

Assembling the Burgers

  1. 7

    Toast the Buns

Lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

  2. 8

    Build the Burgers

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by a burger patty with melted cheese, a generous spoonful of bourbon BBQ sauce, onion rings, and tomato slices. Top with the other half of the bun.
