Preparation of Rice
- 1
Cook the Rice
Rinse the white rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a pot, combine 1 cup of rinsed rice with 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to low heat, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes or until the water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
Cooking Shrimp and Broccoli
- 2
Prepare the Broccoli
While the rice is cooking, bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets and blanch for 2-3 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp. Drain and set aside.
- 3
Cook the Shrimp
In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they turn pink and are cooked through. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
- 4
Making the Sauce
- 5
Prepare the Sauce
In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, water, and white vinegar. Stir until the sugar and cornstarch are dissolved.
- 6
Add Sauce to Shrimp and Broccoli
Pour the sauce mixture over the shrimp and broccoli in the skillet. Stir well to coat everything evenly. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.
