For the Broccoli

For the Rice

Method

Cooking the Rice

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Place 1 cup of white rice in a fine-mesh sieve and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch.

  2. 2

    Boil Water

In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of water and 1 tsp of salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

  3. 3

    Cook the Rice

Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed rice. Stir briefly to prevent sticking, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 18-20 minutes or until the rice is tender and the water has been absorbed.

  4. 4

    Fluff the Rice

Once cooked, remove from heat and let sit for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.

Sautéing the Broccoli

  1. 5

    Prepare the Broccoli

Wash the fresh broccoli under running water and cut it into bite-sized florets. Set aside.

  2. 6

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.

  3. 7

    Sauté the Garlic

Add 2 minced garlic cloves to the skillet and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.

  4. 8

    Add the Broccoli

Add the broccoli florets to the skillet, stirring to coat them with the oil and garlic.

  5. 9

    Season and Cook

Sprinkle 1 tsp of salt, 1 tsp of black pepper, and 1 tsp of red pepper flakes over the broccoli. Sauté for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the broccoli is bright green and tender-crisp.
