Egg Foo Young Mixture

White Rice

Gravy Sauce

Method

Prepare White Rice

  1. 1

    Cook the Rice

In a medium pot, add 1 cup of white rice and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until rice is tender and water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let sit covered for another 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork.

Make Egg Foo Young

  1. 2

    Cook the Beef

In a large skillet over medium heat, add 1 cup of ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

  2. 3

    Prepare Egg Mixture

In a large bowl, whisk together 4 large eggs, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Stir in 1 cup of chopped green onions and the browned beef until well combined.

  3. 4

    Fry the Egg Foo Young

Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Pour in a portion of the egg mixture (about 1/2 cup) and spread it out into a round pancake shape. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Repeat with the remaining mixture, adding more oil as needed.

Prepare Gravy Sauce

  1. 5

    Make the Gravy

In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup of beef broth and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. In a separate bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry. Once the broth mixture is simmering, whisk in the cornstarch slurry and cook until thickened, about 2-3 minutes. Stir in 1 teaspoon of sesame oil for flavor.
