Cooking the Rice
- 1
Rinse and Cook the Rice
Rinse 1 cup of white rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil over high heat.
- 2
Simmer the Rice
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer for about 15 minutes or until all the water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for an additional 5 minutes.
Preparing the Bean Curd with Garlic Sauce

Prepare the Tofu
While the rice is cooking, drain the firm tofu and press it gently to remove excess moisture. Cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes.
- 4
Prepare the Garlic Sauce
Mince the garlic cloves and set them aside. In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, water, red chili flakes, and cornstarch until smooth.
