Method

Prepare the Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Form the Patty

In a bowl, combine 1 lb of ground beef with 1 tsp of salt and 1 tsp of black pepper. Mix gently and form into two 8 oz patties.

Cook the Bacon

  1. 2

    Fry the Bacon

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the 2 slices of bacon until crispy. Remove and let drain on paper towels.

Make Onion Straws

  1. 3

    Prepare Onions

Slice the medium onion into thin rings.

  2. 4

    Batter the Onions

In a bowl, mix 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of cornstarch, 1 tsp of garlic powder, 1 tsp of salt, and 1 tsp of pepper. Dip the onion rings into 1 cup of buttermilk, then coat them in the flour mixture.

  3. 5

    Fry the Onion Straws

Heat 4 cups of oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry the battered onion rings in batches until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Cook the Burger

  1. 6

    Grill the Patty

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the burger patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.

  2. 7

    Melt the Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of pepper jack cheese on each patty and cover to melt.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 8

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each burger bun, layer the cooked patty with melted cheese, 1 tbsp of A1 sauce, 1 slice of bacon, and a handful of onion straws. Top with the other half of the bun.
