Prepare the Burger Patty

Form the Patty
In a bowl, combine 1 lb of ground beef with 1 tsp of salt and 1 tsp of black pepper. Mix gently and form into two 8 oz patties.
Cook the Bacon

Fry the Bacon
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the 2 slices of bacon until crispy. Remove and let drain on paper towels.
Make Onion Straws

Prepare Onions
Slice the medium onion into thin rings.

Batter the Onions
In a bowl, mix 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of cornstarch, 1 tsp of garlic powder, 1 tsp of salt, and 1 tsp of pepper. Dip the onion rings into 1 cup of buttermilk, then coat them in the flour mixture.

Fry the Onion Straws
Heat 4 cups of oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry the battered onion rings in batches until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Cook the Burger

Melt the Cheese
In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of pepper jack cheese on each patty and cover to melt.
Assemble the Burger

Build the Burger
On the bottom half of each burger bun, layer the cooked patty with melted cheese, 1 tbsp of A1 sauce, 1 slice of bacon, and a handful of onion straws. Top with the other half of the bun.
