Method

Preparation of the Patty

  1. 1

    Forming the Patty

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each into an 8 oz. patty, making a slight indentation in the center to prevent puffing during cooking.

Cooking the Patty

  1. 2

    Grilling or Pan-Frying

Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Place the patties on the grill or in the skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium-rare. Place a slice of American cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to allow it to melt.

Assembling the Cheeseburger

  1. 3

    Building the Burger

Toast the burger buns lightly on the grill or in the skillet. On the bottom half of each bun, place the cooked patty with melted cheese. Add the lettuce leaf, tomato slice, and pickles. Drizzle ketchup and mustard to taste. Top with the other half of the bun.
