Steak Preparation
Method
Steak Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Steak
Remove the porterhouse steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes prior to cooking. This helps it cook more evenly.
- 2
Season the Steak
Generously season both sides of the steak with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. Make sure to rub the seasoning into the meat for better flavor.

Flip and Add Aromatics
Flip the steak using tongs, then add the garlic cloves and rosemary to the skillet. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes.
- 6
Baste the Steak
Add the unsalted butter to the skillet. Once melted, use a spoon to baste the steak with the butter and aromatics while it finishes cooking.
- 7
Check for Doneness
Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. For medium-rare, aim for 130°F (54°C).
- 8
Rest the Steak
Remove the steak from the skillet and place it on a cutting board. Let it rest for about 10 minutes before slicing to retain its juices.
- 9
Serve
Slice the porterhouse steak against the grain and serve with your favorite sides.
