Method
Preparing the Pizza Dough
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dough Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let the Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area until it doubles in size (about 1 hour).
Assembling the Pizza
- 5
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
- 6
Prepare the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
- 7
Add Sauce and Cheese
Transfer the rolled dough to a pizza stone or baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the surface. Tear mozzarella cheese into pieces and distribute evenly on top.
- 8
Season and Bake
Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt, and add black pepper to taste. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 9
Add Basil
In the last 2 minutes of baking, add fresh basil leaves on top of the pizza for flavor.
Making Whipped Ricotta
- 10
Combine Ingredients
In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, heavy cream, salt, and black pepper.
- 11
Whip the Mixture
Using a hand mixer or whisk, whip the mixture until it becomes light and fluffy.
Serving the Pizza
- 12
Slice and Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a minute. Slice the pizza into wedges and serve with a dollop of whipped ricotta on top.
